At that time, Telegram announced having 100,000 active users. According to the company, this number has been growing exponentially until this date, when it has 500 million active users.
Telegram is a freeware, cloud-based instant messaging app like Whatsapp and Facebook messenger.
This app works with Wi-Fi and mobile data to send messages.
This messenger app states high insecurity and speed and claims to be the best substitute amongst the available messaging apps.
Creators of the app profess that it combines the speed of Whatsapp with Snapchat’s transient feature. It has combines many functions of both Whatsapp and Snapchat. Like Whatsapp, this can show the contact’s online status; you can share your pictures, videos, documents, contacts, and location. Apart from these known peculiarities, what makes this app distinctive is the security that it offers.
The algorithm of Telegram functions such as every activity done has the ability to be self-destructed. In actuality, there are timers on the messages and all the media content that is shared.
This self-destruction’s time range is from two seconds to 1 week through the built-in feature of Secret Chat.
Another unique attribute of this app is the prior intimation of the screenshots. Through this feature, the user can quickly know about the insecurity or leaking of the data.
If any of your chat is screenshot, the app gives you a warning, which further secures the secret chat.
Furthermore, it offers end-to-end encryption, hence leaving behind no trace on the servers of the app.

Like every other mobile app, the Telegram app also has some demerits like at times. The user has to open the app to receive the messages, which oppose its quality of being called an instant messaging app.
Moreover, possibly the most significant disadvantage of this app is that it does not has the facility to send multiple files at a time. To send more than one file, the user has to choose the file one by one to send it. Also, the app supports only one-on-one video calls.
